Practical answers to the most common questions about living in East Village — from heating and parcels to parking and broadband.

Parcels & Deliveries

What to do when couriers let you down

Where do I collect missed parcels? Get Living’s parcel service was discontinued, so you’ll need to collect directly from your courier’s local depot or arrange redelivery via their app. For Evri, use the Evri app; for Amazon, check your delivery notification for the specific depot.

Why does Evri keep failing my deliveries? This is a known issue in East Village. The best workaround is to use the Evri app to redirect to a nearby parcel shop or locker, or request a specific delivery day when you’re home.

Security and Safety

Reporting crime and accessing CCTV

There’s been a phone theft/mugging nearby — who do I contact? Report to the Met Police via 101 (non-emergency) or 999 if in progress. You can also report online at met.police.uk. For incidents in communal areas, notify GetLiving so they can review CCTV footage.

How do I access East Village CCTV footage? CCTV in communal areas is managed by GetLiving (EVML). Contact them directly if you need footage for a police report - they’ll liaise with the police on your behalf.

Pests and Maintenance

Rats, repairs, heating and hot water

There are rats in/around my building. What do I do? Report to Get Living via the resident portal immediately — pest control is their responsibility for communal areas. For inside your flat, you can also contact Newham Council’s pest control service. The sooner it’s reported, the faster they act.

My heating/hot water has gone off. Who do I call? For Get Living managed properties, contact them via the resident portal or emergency line. If you’re on the East London Energy network (most Chroma Mansions residents are), call their 24/7 helpline. Keep your account number handy.

How do I control my heating to avoid high bills? Engineers recommend keeping your thermostat on manual rather than auto, and tracking usage via your meter. East London Energy has a customer portal where you can monitor consumption.

Noise and Neighbours

Complaints, disturbances and fireworks

Who do I contact about a noise complaint? For persistent neighbour noise, contact Newham Council’s noise team (they operate nights and weekends). For one-off disturbances, try speaking with your neighbour first if it’s safe to do so. Get Living can also get involved if it’s a tenant of theirs.

Fireworks are distressing my pet - is there anything I can do? Keep pets indoors, use white noise or a radio to mask the sound, and check Newham Council’s events calendar so you can prepare in advance. Diwali, Bonfire Night, Eid, and New Year are the most common flashpoints.

GetLiving and EVML

Complaints, repairs and the resident portal

How do I raise a formal complaint with Get Living? Use the resident portal as your first step — it creates a logged record. If unresolved, escalate in writing to their Head of Property Management. For serious unresolved issues, the Housing Ombudsman is the next step.

Where is the Get Living residents’ portal? Log in at getliving.com - you can report repairs, pay rent, and message your property team from there.

Parking

Visitor passes, permits and EV charging

How do visitor parking passes work in East Village? Visitor parking is managed via the Sippi app depending on your zone. Residents need to register their address to issue passes to guests. Note that not all streets within East Village allow visitor passes - check the signage on your specific street before assuming it applies.

Where can I charge an EV in East Village? There are charging points in some car parks and on-street. Check Zap-Map for the nearest available chargers - it’s worth bookmarking rather than relying on a fixed guide as availability changes regularly.

Home Services and Trades

Finding plumbers, cleaners and key cutting

Where can I find a reliable plumber, electrician or cleaner? The EVH local directory has traders recommended by residents. For emergencies, GetLiving has an out-of-hours maintenance line for issues within managed areas. For your own flat, always get at least two quotes before committing.

Where can I get keys cut near East Village? Timpsons in Westfield can cut most standard keys, but cannot duplicate GetLiving fobs - for those you’ll need to contact GetLiving directly (a charge applies for replacements).

Where can I print documents nearby? There are print services in Mail Boxes Etc, Westfield and also in some lobbies in the Tulu rental area.

Healthcare

GPs, dentists and urgent care nearby

How do I register with a local GP? Liberty Bridge Road Practice is highly rated by residents and is just off the main estate. You can register online via their website. If they’re at capacity, nhs.uk/service-search will show alternatives accepting new patients in E20.

Is there an NHS dentist in East Village? East Village Dental is the nearest, but NHS availability is limited. MyE20 Dentist near the velodrome is another option. For urgent dental care, NHS 111 can direct you to an emergency dentist.

Pets

Dog walkers, sitters and off-lead areas

Are there dog walkers or sitters covering East Village? Several resident dog walkers operate in the area - check the EVH directory. The Rover app also has walkers registered in E20. For cat sitting, TrustedHousesitters and local Facebook groups are good options.

Where are dogs allowed off-lead in East Village? The designated off-lead area is in the park near Here East. Dogs must be kept on leads in most communal gardens and around the park. Always check posted signage as rules are occasionally updated.

Practical and Seasonal

Street lights, fireworks, donations and discounts

How do I report a broken street light? Report via newham.gov.uk (Report a problem) or email your local councillor. Include the exact street name and the reference number printed on the lamp post — this speeds things up significantly.

Why are there so many fireworks in East Village? East Village has a large and diverse community, and fireworks are common around Diwali, Bonfire Night, Eid, and New Year. Newham Council publishes a community events calendar if you want advance notice.

Where can I donate unwanted clothes, books or furniture? The British Heart Foundation on Stratford High Street accepts furniture and large items (book a collection online). Clothes banks are dotted around the estate. Books can be donated to the library at Here East or left in the community book exchange.

Are there resident discounts for local attractions? Get Living occasionally offers resident perks and discounts - check their resident portal or newsletter for current offers. Westfield also runs East Village resident promotions periodically.

Tower Bridge offers tickets for £1 to residents of E20 - show proof of ID and address on arrival.

Internet and Broadband

Providers available and fixing outages

Which broadband providers are available in East Village? Hyperoptic is the most popular and widely available - they have fibre infrastructure throughout the estate. Virgin Media and Sky are also options in some blocks. Check your building’s availability on each provider’s website before signing up.

Hyperoptic is down - is it just me? Check the Hyperoptic status page or their Twitter/X account for outages. If it’s just your flat, restart your router and check all cable connections before calling support.

Bins and Recycling

Bulky waste, recycling and what goes where

How do I get a bulky item collected (furniture, appliances etc.)? Newham Council offers a bulky waste collection — book via newham.gov.uk or call 020 3373 0033. There’s a small charge per item. Don’t leave bulky items in communal areas as this can result in a fine.

What can I recycle in East Village? Standard recycling (paper, card, plastic bottles, cans, glass) goes in the blue bins. Food waste in the food waste caddy. Check the Newham Council website for the full accepted materials list, as contamination is a growing issue.

Can't find what you need? The East Village Connect WhatsApp group has 400+ residents who may already have the answer — and the Who Do I Call? page has the right contact for every issue.
